چکیده

This paper deals with probabilistic and nondeterministic processes represented by a variant of labelled transition systems where any outgoing transition of a state s is augmented with probabilities for the possible successor states. Our main contribution are algorithms for computing the bisimulation equivalence classes as introduced by Larsen & Skou [44] and the simulation preorder a la Segala & Lynch [57]. The algorithm for deciding bisimilarity is based on a variant of the traditional partitioning technique [43, 51] and runs in time O(mn(logm+ logn)) where m is the number of transitions and n the number of states. The main idea for computing the simulation preorder is the reduction to maximum ow problems in suitable networks. Using the method of Cheriyan, Hagerup & Mehlhorn [15] for computing the maximum ow, the algorithm runs in time O((mn6 +m2n3)= log n). Moreover, we show that the network-based technique is also applicable to compute the simulation-like relation of [40] in fully probabilistic systems (a variant of ordinary labelled transition systems where the non-determinism is totally resolved by probabilistic choices).

An Intrinsic Characterization of Approximate Probabilistic Bisimilarity

In previous work we have investigated a notion of approximate bisimilarity for labelled Markov processes. We argued that such a notion is more realistic and more feasible to compute than (exact) bisimilarity. The main technical tool used in the underlying theory was the Hutchinson metric on probability measures. This paper gives a more fundamental characterization of approximate bisimilarity in...

Bisimilarity of Probabilistic Pushdown Automata

We study the bisimilarity problem for probabilistic pushdown automata (pPDA) and subclasses thereof. Our definition of pPDA allows both probabilistic and non-deterministic branching, generalising the classical notion of pushdown automata (without ε-transitions). Our first contribution is a general construction that reduces checking bisimilarity of probabilistic transition systems to checking bi...

Modal Decomposition on Nondeterministic Probabilistic Processes

We propose a SOS-based method for decomposing modal formulae for nondeterministic probabilistic processes. The purpose is to reduce the satisfaction problem of a formula for a process to verifying whether its subprocesses satisfy certain formulae obtained from its decomposition. By our decomposition, we obtain (pre)congruence formats for probabilistic bisimilarity, ready similarity and similari...

Deciding Hedged Bisimilarity

The spi-calculus is a formal model for the design and analysis of cryptographic protocols: many security properties, such as authentication and strong confidentiality, can be reduced to the verification of behavioural equivalences between spi processes. In this paper we provide an algorithm for deciding hedged bisimilarity on finite processes, which is equivalent to barbed equivalence (and coar...
